Before a botulinum toxin treatment, a consultation with the patient is carried out, to explain the procedure accurately, informing about possible risks and side effects, describing the prospects of success, clarifying doubts, or if necessary indicating alternative treatments.
The application of botulinum toxin is done in the office, according to the planning based on the wishes and needs of each patient. To perform the treatment, small amounts of the substance are applied. Very thin needle injections are used, at the sites where the expression lines are located, to decrease the activity of the corresponding muscles.
The patient may notice a little discomfort during the application that is usually defined as mild stinging. The discomfort is very slight. The application takes about five to ten minutes on average.
The result appears gradually after a few days, which is an advantage for the patient since a sharp change in appearance will not be noticed. The total effect in some patients can take up to two weeks. This effect lasts approximately four to six months, or in some cases longer.
It is mainly used for the treatment of wrinkles of the forehead, frown, and the so-called "crow's feet", also, its use is possible in other areas. The treatment can be repeated without problems, according to the need of the person.
